Our Logo & Its Meaning

A History of Helping Hands SDSU
Our logo is the heart symbol, completed on one side by our Helping Hands members and one side by the members of our community that we currently serve, signifying the promise that our community will always mutually support one another through all of our respective tough times.
Helping Hands for Homelessness was founded in 2024 by a cohort of approximately 30 students from the SDSU Weber Honors College, united by a shared commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges of homelessness. What began as a student-led initiative quickly evolved beyond a traditional campus organization. In its first semester, Helping Hands established a strong foundation through educational programming, direct service, and community engagement.
By its second year, Helping Hands had grown into a fully operational organization, led by a dedicated executive team of approximately 20 undergraduate students. Through strategic expansion, the organization has created robust opportunities for the SDSU community to engage in interdisciplinary research, lead large-scale resource drives, produce educational content, and participate in organized outreach supported by accessible transportation. These efforts have significantly increased student involvement while strengthening connections between the university and the surrounding community.
With the help of SDSU's students and faculty, the organization’s impact has been able to extend well beyond campus. Helping Hands has distributed hundreds of hygiene kits and Helping Hands Hydration Kits, shared critical information on public access to clean drinking water, and produced educational short films highlighting the experiences of individuals navigating homelessness, alongside providing a variety of additional support resources.
The Helping Hands executive team remains committed to expanding community support, increasing access to essential resources, and honoring SDSU students’ compassion and dedication to supporting those around them who are currently experiencing homelessness.
